Chamber board learns about career certificates
A regional organization is promoting a National Career Readiness Certificate as a way of ensuring businesses that workers are highly skilled.
The Dan River Region Collaborative (DRRC)
was founded in 2008 to address workforce development in the Dan River Region of Virginia. Utilizing a sector strategy approach, the Collaborative promotes regional partnerships of employers, educators, workforce developers and other stakeholders to address the skills needs of regional employers. Within the workforce partnerships, the Collaborative’s efforts focus on capacity building, systems change and policy advocacy.
Statistic 1: Southern VA is the 1st region in the U.S. to participate in ACT's Certified Work Ready Community initiative.
Statistic 2: The Collaborative has received a $54,000 grant from the Boeing Foundation, through the National Fund for Workforce Solutions, to support 18 OJT positions at three manufacturing facilities.
Statistic 3: The DRRC received the Investor Committee Award for Promotion of Systems Change from the NFWS at their 2012 annual conference in Cincinnati, OH.
Statistic 4: The Collaborative, in partnership with DCC, SVCC, and PHCC, has been approved to participate in the Tomorrow's Workforce Now initiative that will provide 400 free NCRCPlus assessments to jumpstart the region's Work Ready Community initiative. 34 employers have signed on to participate.
